Goldenberg's Peanut Chews - Why Screw Up the Wrapper?

golden.gifWe recently picked up a pack of one of our favorites - Goldenberg's Peanut Chews. We got them at Cracker Barrel, but previously had only gotten them at the movie theater...and its been awhile since I'd had them. You can see, in perfect Cracker Barrel form, its a great, vintage label. As I mentioned, its been awhile, so I had only ever seen this candy with the vintage label and the slightly newer version (below).peanut chew 2.jpg

But the following is the new wrapper, the one currently sold. We hate it. We're not opposed to updating a classic candy, but why wouldn't you evolve the original - refreshing it and giving it a face lift. Not some Saturday morning cartoon-looking logo.

Just so you know…Goldenberg Peanut Chews have ALWAYS been my favorite candy, ever since I was a child!
Over the last few years I found them to becoming rare, as of late the disappeared altogether!
I was so disappointed!!
Luckily, I stumbled upon them in a grocery store as I was complaining of their demise, when a clerk said have you ever tried Chewetts?
I said I don’t like milk chocolate, and she showed me the candy!
Now why have they chosen to downplay the Goldenberg name? Is it a semetic issue? I would hope not! For God’s sake…it’s candy!!
Jeeezzz!

hey! I'm 78 yrs. old too. loved the peanut chews they had in my elementary school cafeteria. A penny a bar. Some things should never change.

I had my first Goldenberg's peanut chews at an Aunt's house when I was a little kid and it was love at first bite. The love was lost, however, when some moron decided to 'update' the wrapper. Ever hear of leaving well enough alone?

I liked the original package - that said, from a marketing point of view, I don't think it will will the kids over. But I would have preferred to see a more tastefully designed update to the original.
Of note - they have a "spin to win candy" game on their site; it shows a wheel with 3 spots to win and 5 spots to lose, indicating a 3/8 chance to win. I've spun it about a hundred times and not won... I knew when seeing it it was misleading, and have confirmed this before having my kids try it... sorry, Just Born, you need to get your act together.

I fell in love with Goldenberg's only about 10 years ago, and I am disappointed about the new label, and I think the recipe has been messed with - not sure if the chocolate is as dark as it was before.

I am 78 years old and since my childhood goldenberg's peanut chews have been my favorite. I have not been able to find then for years until cracher barrel, I just orders some, i hope they are the same as the package doesn't look the same.

I last bought goldenberg's peanut chews a few years back at a dollar store- the only place I could find them. They are the absolute BEST - flavor, texture, mix of chewy molasses flavor and roasted peanuts in chocolate. Since chldhood I craved them. The new wrapper is a letdown - like losing a good, reliable face of a friend. BUT I don't care as long as they DON'T mess with one molecule of the original recipe!!!!!
For instance, Bit o Honey and Mary Janes have gone soft and the flavor is just not the same.
